£10 Champions League Free Bet

Posted in Gambling at 00:52 by dalore

I’ve got a bet that you can’t lose on!

betinternet.com are currently offering a FREE £10 Bet on the Champions League Outright Market. Place your bet as normal and if it loses betinternet.com will give you your £10 back

So basically you make a bet on who is going to win the Champions League and if your team loses, you get your £10 back, if it wins, that’s even better. It’s a no risk bet. You don’t even have to know anything about football (but it can’t hurt), just pick a team. Hurry though, as it expires in the new year.

I choose Arsenal at odds of 15.0, which means I will get £150 back if Arsenal wins (£140 of which is profit). In the unlikely event of Arsenal losing (as if), I get my £10 deposit back.

Go the Gunners!

Also, if its your first time on betinternet.com don’t forget to collect the £25 free bet first using the matched betting techinques. So to collect both, you need to first deposit £60, then make a matched bet with odds equal to or greater then 2.0. Then you should make the Champions League bet and then collect your free bet when it is ready.

£50 Free Bet on Saturday Update

Posted in Gambling at 22:03 by dalore

I hope some of you took advantage of the £50 free bet offer from Ladbrokes I mentioned earlier. I sure did, and here is how I did it.

First up, I deposited £50 to Ladbrokes to qualify for the offer. I made the qualifying bet on this:

Leeds vs Hull
Match betting
Draw @ 3.25
Stake: £50

Then I went over to Betfair and matched as close as I can a lay using the matched betting calculator:

Leeds v Hull
Match Odds
The Draw @ 3.4
Lay Amt: £48.51
Needed to deposit at least: £116.42

I lost the £116.42 I deposited at Betfair, but won £112.50 at Ladbrokes, which almosts cancels each other out. Which is why this is called a matched bet.

Next up is to collect the £50 free bet token without any risk. So to do this, I looked for and found a matched bet that had high odds and used the matched betting calculator again. Being sure I ticked the stake not returned option.

At the Ladbrokes side, I made this bet using my £50 free bet token:

Wigan vs Chelsea
Correct score
Chelsea 1 - 0 @ 7.00
Stake: £50 Free Bet Token

And matched it with a lay at Betfair:

Wigan v Chelsea
Correct Score
0 - 1 @ 6.8
Lay Amt: £44.44
Needed to deposit at least: £257.75

If you notice closely this is a mini arb (not taking into account Betfair commission), meaning the lay odds are less the back odds. Also it is nice and high which is good for collecting free bets which don’t have the stake returned (being the most common).

With that round, I won £44.44 (minus £2.22 which is the 5% commission) at the exchange, but lost the free bet at the bookie. So now we have to withdraw our money and see how we’ve ended up.

At Ladbrokes, I had £162.50 to withdraw. This consists of my initial £50 and my initial win of £112.50.

At Betfair I had £299.97 to withdraw (well actually I had more cause actual deposits had to be rounded up to a whole number, but for mathematical purposes, I’ll use the true bare minimum values needed to deposit, it won’t change the profit total). The Betfair values were made up of my second deposit of £257.75, plus the win of £44.44, minus the commission of £2.22.

So the total amount to withdraw adds up to £462.47. The total amount deposited consists of the intitial £50 into Ladbrokes, plus the 2 deposits into Betfair of £116.42 and £257.75 for a total of £424.17.

This means the profit is:
Withdrawed - Deposited
£462.47 - £424.17
£38.30

This was all risk free (not counting human error, which always exists). This wasn’t bad for about 10 or so minutes of browsing a website and submitting a few web forms, much better then filling in boring surveys online.

This concludes another round of matched betting, stay tuned for more matched betting opportunities.

Paddy Power Strip Poker

Posted in Gambling at 17:46 by dalore

Recently I took part in a succesful Guinness world record attempt for the largest strip poker event. It was the Paddy Power Strip Poker Championship. It was attended by over 200 people. The problem was that the majority of player were blokes so there was a bit too much sausage for my liking. But the girls that did attend were paid and rushed in at the last minute from model and acting agencies so they were lush looking.

During the tournament I managed to make it through about halfway. About the same time as the open bar opened, talk about timing. When the bar was opened, I managed to make full use of it as I was blind rotten (I don’t even remember how I got home).

During the game they changed the rules because they thought people weren’t getting nekkid fast enough. It used to be as you ran out of chips, you used one of your rebuys to buy a multiple of the current blind, and your rebuy chips matching the amount of clothes. A quarter of the way in they said no more rebuys from now one, if you want to use them you have to use them all now. So, basically everyone used all their rebuys and we sat and played nekkid poker (in your jocks with a towel). Which in my opinion is no longer strip poker, but nekkid poker. But I guess it is only the opinion of the Guinsess World Record officials that matters as we still made the world record.

Well a few laters they send us out a pack which contained a certificate, some pictures in a book and a short dvd. Well I ripped the dvd and made a divx for you. See if you can spot my drunk face bobbing in the crowd. And mind the wangs.

The Ur-Quan Masters

Posted in Games at 15:02 by dalore

I fancy myself as a bit of a game historian. I like to troll through old games and see a bit of digital history. Maybe because my PC’s aren’t up to true game spec with 200 quid video cards, but moreso because sometimes you find absolute gems with great gameplay but that are now forgotten. I also view the old games with an eye on what might transfer to the mobile space well as the current games on mobile just plain suck.

One of my favourite sites to pillage for old games is the famous “Home OF The Underdogs” site.

One of the recent games I found that surprised me was The Ur-Quan Masters. It’s hard to describe what genre it is in as it spans a few, you have action, adventure and RPG elements all rolled into one. If you have ever played Star Control 2 then you know what I am talking about as this is virtually the same game but with a different name. The game is quite funny with full voice dialog for the conversation.

The game is freeware, having being rescued by fans from the 3DO source as the PC version was lost. It is 100% complete and stable and you will waste many hours playing it as it a truly epic game.

Enjoy

Longest shopping list ever

Posted in Shopping at 19:39 by dalore

Want to see the longest shopping list ever. This is what I get for teaching the missus how to shop online.

I wonder what the biggest amount of shopping Sainsbury would let you do. Seeing as its a flat 5 quid to deliver your shopping it makes sense to get as much delivered in one go. Also notice we don’t buy any perishables like milk, meat, fruit and veg as we like to pick them out ourselves from our neighbourhood merchants.

Well here it is, the longest list yet

Thank you for shopping with Sainsbury’s Online Groceries. We have received your order and look forward to delivering your shopping straight to your door.

You’ll find a complete list of what you’ve ordered at the end of this email.

- The estimated* cost of your order is GBP 290.24

Please note our policy on bottled water - due to availability issues and concerns regarding the health and safety of our delivery drivers, water orders are subject to a maximum of 6 units per delivery. For more detailed information please visit our updated terms and conditions, these can be found in help section of the site.

Best wishes

It’s (almost) whale hunting season.

Posted in Stuff at 13:48 by dalore

A vast yea landlubber. Ahoy mateys.

No it’s not International Talk Like a Pirate Day (September 19), it’s whale hunting season (almost).

In fact a slim majority of 33 to 32 votes for bringing back whale hunting almost passed. It needed a 75% majority. The majority seem to want whale hunting back.

Call me Ahab, as I’m off to find me my white whale.

Don’t get me wrong, I don’t condone extinction of a species, but any animal or plant is fair game in my book as long as they are a renewable resource that is renewed (like planting trees).

I offer a solution to the problem of whale hunting, whale farming. I reckon if you want to hunt whales, grow them yourselves. Just like any other animal or plant. Countries could grow whales, insert tracking devices (kind of like branding) into the whales when born, and only hunt farmed whales. You could pen the whales up, but letting them roam free would be more fun.

You could then capitalise on it even more by offering whale hunts. People could pay to go hunt whales. Follow them around with their tracking devices, and then mount the head in their den. Kidding on that last bit, you’d need a big den.

I wonder what whale meat tastes like? I reckon you could make a big steak out of them. Mmmm delicious.

In fact, according to the wikipedia articles on whales we could be doing them an advantage in speeding up their natural selection to make them smarter.

By contrast, the whale has faced no such environmental stimuli to brain evolution. Whales live in an unchanging and benign environment with few natural predators.

I for one reckon we should bring back whale hunting, and it seems the majority agree. Now we just have to change the minds of the holdouts

Free Mobile with Free Calls!

Posted in Shopping at 14:43 by dalore

For the last 6 months I’ve been getting all my phone calls subsidised for free and a free phone to boot!

I know it all sounds amazing and that there must be sort of scam but I can assure it isn’t. The deal is you sign up to a normal 12 month plan for a set amount per month. They give you a free phone, and you pay your monthly bill as normal. Then every couple of months you fill in a simple form (3 entry fields), mail it back with a photocopy of your bill and they refund your charges with cheque.

Witness my latest cheque for 72 quid:

Mobile Affiliate Cheque

For the step by step instructions:

  1. Go to Cool New Mobile and check out the phones and plans. Note that some plans will give you cashback thats equal to the total 12 months outlay while other plans don’t cover the full cost of your mobile plan, but probably give you a better phone. It’s a tradeoff you will have to make. Since I’m a cheapskate, I went with a 30 quid a month on a 12 month plan with 360 quid cashback which ends up paying for all of it. The phone I got was a Sony K300i which I gave to the missus to use as it was better then her current phone. Alternatively you can keep your current phone and find one that goes for the most on ebay and sell it.
  2. Once you got your plan and phone chosen, sign up as normal. You will then be sent a phone and be on a monthly plan, just like a normal contract phone deal.
  3. The last bit of the plan, is every couple of months (they give you a schedule, mark it in your diary), you fill out a simple form which includes your customer number, your name and the amount of the cashback. Mail this in with a photo copy of the bill for the month, and hey presto you get sent a cheque. For me, my schedule was month 4,6,8, 10 and 12. Five installments of 72 quid each time which equals 360 quid.

Now you may be wondering, how do they possible make any money at all if they pay for everything. Well they rely on your apathy and laziness. They hope you either forgot, or are to lazy to bother mailing in the form, and once you miss one, the rest are void.

The way I see it, I’m getting paid 360 quid to fill in 5 forms every 2 months. So for 5 mins of work each form, 25 mins in total, thats more then 700 quid an hour! Quite worth your time and effort.

Another neat trick is if you want more minutes then what you get on your plan, for me I get 200 minutes and 200 texts (quite enough), then you can sign up for multiple phones and plans. You can then hock the extra phones on ebay as brand new phones. Then when you run out of your normal minutes on your plan, instead of being a chump and paying for the extra minutes, just swap your sim with your extra sims, make your calls for free, then swap back to your main sim to receive calls to your normal number. Ingenious!
